Worldwide distribution
Mango is one of the most widely distributed fruit trees in the world, native to India and Malaysia, India has the longest cultivation history and the largest production, accounting for 80% of the world's production. The name of the mango is derived from the Tamil language of southern India. The fruit of wild mango is inedible, and the Indians first discovered the tree and cultivated it as an edible mango, which has been used for more than 4,000 years to shelter from the tropical sun. It then spread to Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia, and then to the Mediterranean coastal countries, and only then to Brazil, the West Indies and Florida in the United States after the 18th century, where there are large mango forests.
