Comparison Between Rubber Wood Panel Material and Oak

Aspect

Rubber Wood

Oak

Durability

Rubber wood is highly durable, but it is slightly less durable compared to oak.

Oak is extremely durable and is often used for heirloom-quality furniture.

Cost

Rubber wood is more affordable and offers a cost-effective option for furniture.

Oak is typically more expensive due to its high durability and popularity.

Environmental Impact

Rubber wood has a lower environmental impact as it repurposes trees that were initially grown for latex production.

Oak has a higher environmental impact because of its slower growth rate, which affects resource sustainability.

Aesthetic

Rubber wood has a lighter color and features a smooth grain, making it versatile for various decor styles.

Oak features rich grains that vary from light to dark shades, offering a distinct aesthetic. Oak trees can also grow massive, so you can get a giant single live edge slab.

Maintenance

Rubber wood is easy to maintain with simple care routines and doesn't require frequent upkeep.

Oak requires regular maintenance to prevent the wood from drying out and cracking, ensuring its longevity and appearance.

The Manufacturing Process Of Rubber Wood Panel Material

Raw material
After being harvested, rubberwood is transported to the factory and cut into wood logs.

Saw and dry
Before grading according to A, B, and C standards, we cut wood logs into smaller slats, kiln-dry, and termite-treat.

Making finger joints
Employees grade the uniform wood slats. The next step is creating “finger” tenon joints using a machine, depending on whether they have a vertical or horizontal structure.

Gluing
The adhesive is applied to the finger joints to enhance the bonding. A finger jointing machine creates interlocking joints at the ends of the wood pieces.

Pressing
The wooden pieces are pressed together in parallel using adhesive and subjected to high pressure from a hydraulic press. Following this, the boards undergo a cooling process.

Sanding
The board is sanded to achieve a smooth surface. It’s prepared and ready for the finishing step to enhance aesthetics.

Finishing
The finishing of the boards can either conclude at the sanding step or an oil coating to enhance the appearance and protect the wood.

Quality control
Quality control is carried out throughout production, ensuring finger joint boards meet specified standards. The final quality control step helps guarantee that the product meets customer requirements.

Packing & delivery
The boards are packaged according to export standards or customer requirements and loaded into containers for delivery.

FAQ

Q: Is rubberwood a good quality wood?

A: Yes, rubberwood is generally considered a good quality wood, especially for furniture and household products, due to its durability, eco-friendliness, and versatility. It's a medium-density hardwood that's resistant to fungus, bacteria, and mold when properly treated. While not as hard as some premium woods like oak or maple, it's still a strong and stable material that can withstand normal wear and tear.

Q: What is the lifespan of rubber wood?

A: An average lifespan of rubber wood is around 15-25 years.

Q: How to care for rubberwood?

A: Keep rubberwood furniture indoors and away from direct sunlight to help preserve its quality. Extreme cold, humidity, or wet conditions can put stress on the wood and cause cracking or moisture damage.

Q: Is rubberwood harder than oak?

A: While softer than oak, rubberwood is still harder than many softwoods; it is, therefore, easily usable for furniture that gets lighter use. The lighter weight of rubberwood furniture also makes it easier to move and relocate within a space, if needed.

Q: Does rubberwood need to be sealed?

A: Rubberwood absorbs moisture quickly, which can lead to warping or swelling if not treated or sealed correctly.

Q: Is rubberwood ok outside?

A: As with all hardwoods, rubberwood comes in varying degrees of quality. It is not suitable for outdoor use, as rain can leach the protective chemicals from the wood, exposing it to fungus and insect attacks. Excessive moisture will also cause the wood to warp and rot.
